Winter Solstice Concert - 19th December
2010

Winter
Solstice.
By
Paul Mansfield
This
truly is our darkest hour
We
cannot reap, we cannot sow
The
sun hides long behind the stars
The
seeds lay dormant, cold below.
Everywhere
we see the white
Of
nature's blanket soft and cold
We
sit around our fires so warm
Where
stories of the past are told.
We
deck our houses, bright and gay
A
thousand lamps against the night
We
sing our songs of life anew
Looking
forward to the light.
The
Earth, our mother, sleeps her sleep
The
Green Man hides inside her breast
The
creatures of the woods and fields
Sleep
the sleep in winter nests.
For
yes this is our darkest hour
But
if tomorrow comes the dawn
We
know that life will start again
The
things now dead will be reborn.
The
cycle that goes on and on
Continues
now and always will
The
time of warmth will come again
Father
Sun will light us still.
So
hail the Solstice, darkest time
A
time of change and new rebirth
When
light can chase away the dark
And
warmth returns to Mother Earth.
